Hello ODK history lovers
James N Kirby Sales Pty Ltd was the marketing division of the
James N Kirby group of companies.

The State Library of WA holds a few images of the Kirby Sales
WA building located at 104 Beechboro Road South, Perth, WA.

Today, the building looks derelict; but back in the day – the 1950s and 1960s –
this showroom showcased the various Kirby products made or imported by
Kirbys at that time: fridges, freezers, washing machines, radios, fans, ironing
boards … lawnmowers.

James Kirby’s involvement with rotary mowers probably
started with his being a director of Tecnico. Tecnico made
Australia’s first rotary lawnmower.

However, Kirby was a lawnmower maker in their own right.
We know that their 1957 Carter rotary mower was made by
Carter Tools Pty Ltd of Parramatta, NSW.

If only this building could talk …

It just so happens that a couple of 1958 images depict
Carter mowers on the WA showroom floor …

TO BE CONTINUED …

PART TWO – The Images
Below are two images from SLWA. They show the building
and its showroom from 1958. I also include portion enlargements.
