Hi Tyler,
Do you have thoughts on the Penrite MC-2ST Full Synthetic? I’ve been using Penrite 10w-30 semi synthetic in my new predator motor at the moment too.
Cheers,
John

Hi John
MC-2st full synthetic is the best 2 stroke oil I have ever used.
I am on my 2nd bottle -bearing in mind I store machines dry so don't waste much through stale fuel - though I do keep 3 ratios; 25, 40 and 50. I get about 1-1.5 years from 1l bottle.
Its JASO FD which means low smoke and next to no ash/carbon build up.
My issue is 90% of my machinery comes pre-owned, yet I do have a few machines that I have had from new and only run on penrite MC-2st. One being a Victa VCE1640 chainsaw. Probably a couple hours use on it and internally there is not a spot of carbon on the piston crown.
I was surprised to see a reduction in exhaust carbon in a few Victa PT's after maybe 10 tanks mixed 25:1. Presumably the same goes for the carbon sticking in rings.
With regards to smoke, you are always going to get smoke on a cold start. Today I started a 1985 PT Commando - first time since march. 2 pulls in a small cloud of smoke which cleared up in 15 seconds. After this, there is zero 2 stroke smoke at all. Pretty hard to foul a plug either - you can idle for 1/2 an hour and not do it.
I also do no pre-storage prep - they go straight in the shed. The good thing is, this oil doesn't wash off the bore and settle once it sits for a month or more - you can pull the head off and its still nice and oiled all round.
There is no doubt other good oils. Husqvarna LS+ is jaso FD , but only semi synthetic. Though an anecdote; a friend bought a new 129lk trimmer (husky split shaft, around $450)
He put it on a piece of cardboard with a full tank and did as I instructed him - to let it warm up for 5 minutes prior to first use. Anyhow, he got a phone call, sat for 5 minutes, put phone down and fell asleep on the lounge. Wife gets home an hour or 2 later, wakes him and told him his new trimmer just stalled.
Didn't foul a plug - it ran out of fuel
1 full tank at idle - probably good oil (and a good engine no doubt)
Regards

Hi Tyler,
Reading these posts prompted me to check how much 2 stroke oil I have left (Penrite semi synthetic) - turns out not much. So I lashed out on a bottle of MC2-ST. I’m looking forward to that ester oil 2 stroke smell. I run Sta-bil in all my small engine fuels, so typically leave tanks full. I haven’t had any problems with stale fuel yet.
Cheers,
John

Aldi are back at it again - even worse this time. 17inch not 18, back to 132cc, lost the throttle again, added a OPC bar and now have a cloth catcher.
Interestingly it looks to have a deck wash port
Looks like the identical chonda that has been used on Baumr-ag mower on edisons/ebay, and previously on bolens masters special mowers
Problem is (like Sanli) they use a specific round air filter and are a bit of a pain to source (by which I mean $$)

Hoping the consumer won't notice the shortfalls yet insist on that hated device as well. More Victas that have been in the family with minor faults like sticking needle or leaking o ring to be thrown out in favour of one of these.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
