Need help to identify what model this Rover is as the top cover is missing, I need to tension the starter rope spring and can't work out how to get to it and can't find any thing on youtube.
The plastic ring sitting on top of the engine cover is part of the fuel tank which you need to get back far enough to get the engine cover off. Take out the 3 small bolts on the inner ring ( pic 3 ) and there is a bolt lower on the side of the fuel tank to take out and shift the tank back out of the way. Remove the 1 small bolt holding the dipstick tube to the cover and twist dip stick out of the way. Remove the engine cover and rewind spring as per any Briggs with that style pull start.
This Rover looks about a 2000 model but they were made for many years so you would need the numbers that are stamped into the metal engine cover (cowl) to identify the exact year of manufacture.
My neighbor bought the mower back yesterday, complaining that when he started it up it only ran for a few seconds and the cutout.
Sure enough started it up and same thing happened, but if I hit the primer just as it was cutting out it would go for a few more seconds, hit the primer again and it would go fine for 2 or 3 minutes ect ect.
The strange thing is this never happened when I repaired it the first time, I even mowed with it for at least 20min to test it.
PS: I found the model number: M: 12F802 Type: 0875-01 Code: 96082759 (Carby is primer type)
Hi Buckets, Pull the filter out and give it a rev and jamb you thumb into the throat of the carby, bend the deflector out of the way so you can get your thumb to seal it off and as it starts to die release your thumb and repeat this a couple of times. This can often suck the bit of rubbish through that is causing the problem
If that doesn't work while the air cleaner is off (or remove the complete plastic air cleaner assembly ,3 small bolts) then remove the fuel bowl with a socket and give the carby a clean,no need to remove the carby just clean in situ .
I ended up taking the carb off (it appeared to be in very good condition) and hitting it with carb cleaner and fitted a new carb kit.
Started first go and runs well.
The thing I can't get my head around, is that when I returned the mower the first time it was running perfectly, yet a couple of days later it has this problem??
I'm kicking myself now that when it came back I didn't test it first with new fuel, before I done the carby just to see if it may have been old fuel he was using.
