Hi all (especially Mods)

Have been having issues with ODK occasionally over the last few weeks. Very occasionally, ads will come up when I go into a specific forum section (briggs engine questions forum once, victa deck questions another time and a couple of others). They aren't crook ads, just google 'targeted' ads that haze out the rest of the tab (not the entire screen)

Now, I started a new thread, and when I clicked new thread in the briggs section, a separate window popped up and an ad for 'Aristocrat online pokies games' flash jewels, gold bars and all.

I would have taken a screenshot but I saw it come up and closed everything in case of virus

Hasn't happened before and hopefully not again as stuff like that gives me a heart attack as I have no idea how to fix computers

I have Malwarebytes, scanned and no issues. Only other tabs open were main google search pages, Bunnings, TAB, ABC News and AFL site. Nothing crook occurred that I know of

Anyone else noticed this?

I will take screenshots next time

Hi Tyler

Not that I have knowledge of or experienced.

Could you say whether these pop-ups come about after a
'blue bar' search? The blur bar is a piece of Google freeware,
at least as we use it.

Personally, I find that sort of advertising offensive. I mean 'Aristocrat'
has given nothing beneficial to our world.

So, maybe other members have seen your experience.

Cheers

Hi Tyler and Jack

I don't get unwanted ads ,I use Firefox private browser but if I did get ads you just install some ad blockers to your
browser. https://ublock.org/ https://poperblocker.com

Also delete your cookies so marketing don't track you. smashpc

Cheers
Max.

Boy some sites hates me...as I use No script and Ad block Plus on Firefox. On this page I have 6 scripts and 4 ads blocked currently. Of course three of the blocked scripts is Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

hi guys

Jack, you are right, it was right after I did a bluebar search for the other ads. The aristocrat one was when I clicked the new thread button (but had done search recently)

Max, I will look into the ad blockers

I like the targeted ads - at least I get mower or Holden based ads.

Problem is when I don't use it and it comes up with bloody Clinique or Revlon make up ads - although the Myer bra ads can be quite good haha

AVB, interesting about the blocked scripts and ads. I suppose having the tweet, share and like buttons would probably cause a bit of that.

I have had no other issues with the ODK search - its much better than the old one

Hi Tyler,
I think so too, but we will need to monitor it.
Some great advice from Max, AVB and BT too.

Gee Jack, I thought it was the padlock on the frig door or the constant chasing of my chickens off the roadway that was the cause of my weight lost.

Hi Tyler, Jack ,AVB and BT

Yes all very funny stuff Jack and AVB , I see there's an ad for how people entertained themselves before modern
technology and time machines really do work.

Cheers
Max.

Just opened firefox, went into favourites and got to an odk page. clicked on the fabricating plastic parts and this popped up. Clicked X and it took me to the thread without issue.

Hasn't happened for ages

Hi All,

I am getting this checked into because we don't allow advertising on the forum. Hopping to get an answer in the next few days.

Hi all

Paul, it just did the same thing to me as I clicked. Out of interest, do you use firefox?

Bruce, it doesn't really matter, its of minor importance. Its just unfair if ads are popping up and ODK doesn't get any ad revenue

And again, it really doesn't like me tonight haha

Just in case anyone is wondering, the highest ODK forum page I have in my favourites bar is an old thread on Briggs - that why its always the same thing behind the ad - its the first page I go into all the time

G'day all pop-up haters

Bruce is looking into this.

It is not clear that this issue is related to ODK at all.
It is clear that Bruce does not like advertising on these forums.

I have not seen these pop-ups on my screen (I use Firefox).
I use a PC. These images appear to be from mobile devices?

I ask all members to comment if they get these pop-ups.
The more we know, the more we understand.

Hopefully, we'll sort it.

Cheers and thanks

Hi Norm and Tyler
Many thanks. That's the info we need.

I'm confident Bruce will sort this.

Rest assured, we do not like when this nonsense occurs.
ODK should remain commercially ad-free.

ODK has spent significant money to keep the site user-friendly and ad-free.

Members, please be like Norm and Tyler.
Report this nonsense.

The pop-up ads may coming from YouTube as my Adblocker is blocking 4 ads with the YouTube script blocked and has 8 ads blocked with YouTube script unblocked. Also one of the four initial blocked ads is coming in on the Google script. The remaining three ads is coming in on the Outdoorking.com script.

I am however unaffected by whatever being sent out as both NoScript and Adblocker Plus is catching and blocking them.
