Next month is September when lawnies come alive
makings plans, checking tools for perfection we strive
Up North an early reno, down South not just yet
all eyes on the forecast, yep, that's a safe bet

For my Couch the number is 20, degrees celcius that is
ground temp at 4 inches, checking BOM's website a breeze
How level my lawn determines the need for a top dress
Woa! step back for a minute but I don't mean to digress

What else is to be done, do I need to aerate?
what to fertilise with, maybe ammonium sulfate?
Do I gouge out the thatch and is it done first?
don't think, just act, with reno's you're well versed.

So I stick to the plan and organise myself for the season
visit OutDoorKing for updates - anything less is high treason!
Test my irrigation, fix leaks, washers, and hose
inventory my chemicals, and a shopping list composed

Grease up the twins and give 'em a once-over
fine tuning exhaust notes like a symphatic composer
I'm looking forward to Spring and making a start
and share how I do it, my knowledge impart.

Cheers,
TC.

G'day TheCount
As the ODK Poet Laureate you hold a unique place.

My view is that folks love to read poetry but have no
way of responding to it in the modern world ...

You remain an enigma to them.

Maybe you like that ...? I understand that.
I just hope you continue educating us!

Cheers

Hi Jack,

Close to the mark with your initial assessment
for spending my time, consider it an investment
In educating members with a little bit of fun
also riddled with facts and occasional pun

It's hard to be serious all of the time
so I challenge myself putting words into rhyme
The message behind is in fact all too true
how I tend to my yard that is my purview

I hope to enlighten and provide education
my best results start with a yearly aeration
There ain't point without your irrigation
it would all end with increased frustration

My key is consistency and plan it all out
keeping it simple and leave nothing to doubt
Hand picked Fert variety and my soil amendments
selecting the best product with brand independence

It all comes together in my yearly download
its shared and its free my lawnie "source code"
Damned by a deep-seated intellectual stigma
thanks for your kind words - I'm the OutDoorKing enigma!

I think it's a lot about enjoying being a smart-arse and winding words into a bit of a story. Maybe it's more than that. If Members get something out of it then I'll keep making stuff up, and if they don't I'll start doing it twice a week!! There's an image in my head of how I can ratchet this up a notch that involves an Akubra, oilskin, cattle dog and more but that can wait for another day.

The phrase "pay it forward" holds high meaning for me and to provide a recent example from 'that Facebook" forum. A member was after the black cover that goes over the clutch cone, shaft and lever. I had a spare as I detest the thing and removed it from what became my groomer and despite protesting he'd pay for postage I sent it to him for free. The deal was that he'd have to keep paying it forward and I'm happy to say that he held true to his promise and in a short time sent something of his to someone else. There's a sense of pride in that. That's "community", that's the Aussie way. Think of all the offers Members here afford to others - the advice and tutelage from the Masters like you and Bonnar_Bloke down to Newbies like me. The number of times I see acts of kindness on ODK is heart warming.

Back to "the plan". It needs some updating as I've ditched granular chemicals for the season. I'm going all liquid fertiliser and amendments so I'll start a fresh thread on what, how, frequency, rates etc for this week's edition. This is for the lawns only - gardens will still get a hit of pellet manure to kick start their season.

Cheers,
TC.
