Hello
ODK history lovers
BP Zoom was a pre-mixed fuel-oil introduced by
BP [British Petroleum] in
January, 1960. It would cater for the
surge in popularity of 2-stroke motor mowers and scooters
in Australia at that time.
It was only by the end of that decade that
Victa and
BP would realise the marketing advantage of
cross-promotion.
A commercial contract must have ensued.
The first Victa brochures that present
BP Zoom appear in
late 1969 for the
1970 season. But I have good evidence
that Victa were supplying a BP Zoom brochure with their
mowers for the 1969 season. So, best guess, a commercial
arrangement was entered into some time in
1968.
The BP brochure I present here is what I believe to be the
first one – from BP’s perspective – of that collaboration. It was
included with new Victa mowers for the Victa 1969 season.
