Hi Sparker, Now I'll if I can do something like that, but maybe I have a broken conrod......It was going OK, revving a bit then stopped.......... dead My mate doesn't want his motor back, but I'm trying to get the AC generator off...... As his dad has a 5hp B&S that might do the job .speedy
........................Keep your blades sharp......................
speedy, the difference between your motor and Sparkers is his case was broken but an object flung at it by the mower blade, yours is broken by something being flung at it from the inside and that is never going to have a happy ending
Yep thats a conrod. Few problems with putting a 5hp on there. Being a generator the engine will have a tapered shaft. So unless the 5hp you have came off a genset, you will have a problem The mounting flange on an 8hp is well different to a 5hp Not to mention the power difference. With nearly half the power going in you'll get less than half the power out of it when accounting for losses.
Up to you ultimately, but I would either look for another engine or scrap it for copper value in the generator
Speedy, I think the pressure in the sump area, where I did my repair, is lower than the area damaged in your cylinder wall unless there is a lot of blow-by and, as the others have said, I didn't have an internal engine failure like you have had.
