God only knows Norm, but the least they could have done is remove the pull start and remount 90deg around

Maybe something didn't clear the deck - but its strange considering a v40 will fit

Hi Norm and Tyler

Yep you have to do that if you are using a short shaft motor ,you can't use the spacer under the engine like the
V40 does because then the blades would be too high and without the spacer the exhaust will hit the base if you
install the motor the same way as the V40 ,same sort of problems when using the Briggs except the tank hits the
base.

Cheers
Max.

Hi Max

I was forgetting the ring under the 4 strokes - makes sense

Best one I saw was someone cut out a notch from the high arch to fit the briggs tank - bloody nice alloy deck as well

It looks like it has the spacer ring under it

It's a little difficult to see Norm ,I can't see the plastic ring but it could have if its not the short shaft motor.

Reminds me of the alloy SupaSwift base I bought Tyler that had a Briggs ,they did the same thing cutting the
base for fuel tank clearance except they screwed a sheet metal plate under the base so the hole was covered. smashpc

Cheers
Max

Something I have never looked at is if you turn the motor 90 degrees don't you have to drill new holes?

Norm, as they used to mount the briggs sideways on them, I am going to assume we could

Whether or not its a good idea aesthetically though...

Max, there was no plate on the one I saw - I guess thats why the oiled foam filter was so clogged (although they aren't in a good position at the best of times).

Good point there Tyler, I hadn't thought about that. Problem with a Chonda sitting that way is that the spark plug cap sticks out more than on a PT. I had to replace the plug cap on a Chonda yesterday on a mower the correct way round because the bloke had bashed it into a tree branch and broken it. They are a bit exposed and being brittle they do break

Hi Norm

I have had the problem of breaking those Chonda plug caps as well when east west fitted. They are easy to break. I ended up replacing it with a Victa rubber one. They seem Ok
