G'day folks, This topic takes up the last ~10 minutes of today's ep of ABC RN Program 'The Money'. Interesting listening - the lockdown has them flat out!
Audio is now available here; segment starts at 22:00min:
Gadge, I never put the drought and the effect on GA Spares (and others) together. I've always wondered how they were going these days. I hope they stick around.
I can't see them getting the double shift over the line. I'm in two minds about it, if you give up terms and conditions, you pretty well never get them back. However, faced with a job or no job, the decision becomes (or should!) a foregone conclusion.
As for an Aussie made mower, I reckon most tooling for the Enduro would still be around? Just gotta improve the catcher attachment points I reckon. The base and handles are great. The height adjuster is great. Maybe the blade boss design as well, listening to what Bonnar Bloke has said about it in the past.
I don't collect mowers. I just require Multiple Mowing Solutionsâ„¢.
Dunno about the Enduro, but Cox Mowers would very likely now have the tooling for the Greenfield push mowers. They were a very good mower - Cyber Jack bought one new!
Whereas I'll never buy a new push mower. Not with 'wood duck' owners who chuck away quality mowers that only need a little fettling - which I'm perfectly capable of, and am set up to do.
I made up a 'mower workbench' top from a few bits of timber and some plywood, that clamps on top of my small 'open grid' welding table. Fabbed up the welding table too, from a scrounged 13mm square bar steel grate, and 3 water pipe legs.
Edit: On reflection, I just might do a couple of my 'how-to' articles on these 'builds' - with a wee bit of encouragement from my ODK audience?

Hi Gadge and Mystyler That's an interesting enough article, and it shows the unintended consequences of KOVID-19.
In the fastener industry we have a new category of customer - the at-home project person. They are only disappearing now.
In economic theory some goods are known as 'complimentary goods', but no one would have predicted just how significant many items would be demanded at this time.
I mean, toilet paper demand made no sense at all.
This radio report does discuss Australian manufacturing. I attach an interesting, and sobering, ABC article about our loss of manufacturing capacity.
I have my doubts as to whether Cox will restart Enduro production. I had actually called them, trying to get a hold of a new one, but no cigar. I don't think they are making anything other than blades and mesh catcher for them anymore. I tried to buy a new poly one after Bonnar Bloke managed to locate probably the last Greenfield Enduro on sale in the country! Again, nothing.
I'm sure that if they wished to sell it to make some $$ to Mr Gripske and Co. they most certainly could. It would be probably much cheaper than starting R&D from scratch.
Jack and Norm,
Almost every other Government on the planet subsidises industry to some extent. It boggles my mind they we don't do the same. I'm certainly not for massive trade barriers, but when we stupidly do "free trade" deals with countries who do their best to maneuver around them, I think we're nuts for not imposing import taxes on products made, or that SHOULD be made here. It is almost treasonous that I can buy a can of Italian tomatoes for 89c, but the Ardmona or SPC (Aussie) stuff is twice the price.
