Thought I’d share some photos of my Scott Bonnar model 38 series1edger I gave a makeover awhile ago. This model is a little difficult to come across. I live in Qld and sourced this one in WA. It was mostly complete but was in poor condition. A challenging but rewarding rebuild.
I'll have to say that this would have to be the best standard of restoration that I've seen on a Model 38 along with member Bon_Scott's early 38 that he did.
What I really love about this one is the colour of the Series 1 machine is just so period correct. I have to ask, did you have the colour custom mixed and if so do you have a record of the formula used ?
BTW I do see there's a little sneaky bit of Briggs inbred into that Kirby. One thing I'll put out there and that is the Kirby has always been a far more interesting looking small engine opposed to the Briggs which is a far more boring looking unit. I'd say it's got to do with the Kirby's prominent forward facing fuel tank and it's pronounced Air Cleaner that seems to attract one's eye. Anyway just my point of view I guess.
Cheers, BB.

Thanks BB. To be honest I never did really like Kirby engines but I’ve tidied up two or three of them now and their starting to grow on me. I had the green colour matched from the inside of a chain cover from a series 1 solid deck 45 SB. I should have the code somewhere if you’d like to email me.
I was also fortunate enough to find a new set of original Scott Bonnar cable type blades in South Australia but the original white thumb knob used where the handlebars fold down was missing so I had to make one up out of nylon.
Those Kirby's just so much more interesting don't they ? while the Briggs looks smoother and more of a block where as the Kirby has just got things poking out here and there and thus catches your eye somewhat more doesn't it ?
Cheers, BB.
