Putting it as politely as I can, I cannot see how much of the world, including us, can move back to the same relationship with China as they/we had before this. At the very least, our total reliance on their production has been laid bare, and our helplessness should the pandemic hit us full stride will be terrible to behold.
G'day all
Tyler's comments brilliantly sum-up the situation here - from my point of view
Global trading, and our biggest trade partner should be re-thought.
Our lawnmower industry started with the idea of self-sufficiency. We were nation builders by the late 1920s.
Yes totally agree with you on all accounts Jack, but when all this is done and dusted you'll find Australians have very short memories and will quickly want cheap products again and the only place they're available from is .....................China.
Money talks, everything else .......well we all know that outcome don't we ?
I live a 24 Hour lifestyle, but every now and again I seem to fall asleep, well at least that's what my wife tells me.

Mmm; well, maybe not - tho' I do agree that the average aussie nowadays has the attention span of a gnat!
The global corporate world is about to commence a process of undergoing some utterly 'world-changing' transformations, as a result of this pestilence.
Going by the well-respected financial and social commentators that I read, this CoV episode is going to be truly world-changing, in untold ways...
Cheers, Gadge

I reckon their may be a cold war 2 coming as well. The yanks are going to be savage once this is over. The EU may well splinter, and god only knows what will happen in the less developed nations. The footage I have seen coming out of there; bodies on the streets, people burning corpses, riots. Plenty of change coming for sure.
Hi Tyler, Jean seems to be able to keep bringing home the essentials but I know she hunts around several local supermarkets just to get them, but for sure the panic buying has slowed and it seems to be settling down
I always joke that, given the chance (and enough Victa's to keep me occupied), I could go ages without interacting with anyone haha
Most things are back in the shops now thankfully
Bought a back up pack before all this started of 6 quilton 'infused with shea butter'. The stupid stuff not only cost an arm and a leg, the rear ply on every roll has been rolled 90ish degrees out of phase with the other 2 or 3 plys - so it rips in half, tears, separates and is generally very annoying.
Such a first world problem :)- but it's annoying the cr*p out of me (pun intended :D)
Petrol price also down now - shame I am not using any now for 2 reasons :
1 - staying home
2 - Found ants running all up the front of the car. Looking where they are coming from and found a nice little coolant leak (I assume they were attracted by the ethylene glycol sweet smell).
End result - top hose leaking, lower one well on its way, and the 3rd also on its way. Figured its best to do all 3 at once, do new coolant and throw in a set of plugs and air filter as its due.
Caught Repco 25% off parts, 35% off penrite, and a few $ off bosch platinum plugs at SCA - didn't get out of it for much under $270.
Hate to think how much it would cost if I went to the Hyundai dealer. Lucky it happened during isolation - otherwise I would be pressed for time to get them installed, or worse it might have cooked itself between weekly oil/water checks.
That was fantasmo B_B. If they played that on television it would be taken more seriously than the nicy nice commercials appealing to their good nature. They don't have any!!
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
He should be getting a knock on the door after his open admission of intent to profiteer. I would love to see him put through the wringer even though he has received poetic justice of sorts.

I have a problem with the supermarket supplierand the TP manufacturers.

He said the shopper had bought the goods, worth around $10,000, with the help of a "team" of stockpilers when panic buying surged about four weeks ago.
So the store manager well understood the tissue issue then, and would have know other customers would miss out.

Push for fewer toilet rolls per pack Mr Drake said he had been speaking with toilet paper manufacturers about the potential to make packs containing fewer rolls. He said one of those suppliers, Sorbent, was beginning to produce eight-packs and four-packs, but others had said making larger packs was the best method during a time of high demand. "For them to get more toilet rolls into the hands of the consumer, doing the bulk packs is the most efficient run that they can do," he said.
What a load of crap. So these bog behemoth packs are the most efficient then - but they are the most irresponsible from where I am sitting ...
Both the Supermarket and the TP makers have acted irresponsibly at a time of crisis. That's my view anyway.
I can't believe I'm writing about toilet paper!
What's wrong with people! ----------------------------------------- Jack
CyberJack the manufacturers are living in a bubble evidently as staff at these plants no doubt have unbridled access to as many rolls as they need. It's those damned mega packs that have contributed greatly to the trouble and are the last thing we need right now. They obviously have an ulterior motive to save on the cost of equipment used to package the rolls.
I agree the supermarkets were way too slow to act to prevent this ludicrous situation and I have thought maybe they should offer to pay this joker back the cost price of the rolls only so they have a chance to go to people who actually need them. That would be poetic!!
Perhaps the packs can be opened and one roll given to each customer who comes in as a good will gesture.

Some coles were doing just that MF - Nan went down before she agreed to stay at home for a while and they were giving all the oldies a small coles bag with 2 roles of quilton in it
What got me they were selling the crude for a negative 37 usd. I did that was possible but it sounded like they were paying someone to take it off their hands. ANd this morning it back up to 15 usd per barrel.
The criminals should be charging less if the barrel price is in the negative. They would be skyrocketing the moment a rumour of a price hike started but are super slow to pass on savings.

And here we go again in Vic with the numbnutters out causing panic buying and stripping the shelves bare again. Proves that Vic is full of low IQ people that learnt nothing from a few weeks ago when they went through the shortages caused by these idiots. Victoria is the greatest state in AUS because we obviously have the greatest number of IDIOTS
I think we have allowed to many from the wrong countries to come into Vic, and that is being driven by the need for Victoria to keep the home building industry going, as not much else is happening here these days
