Hello ODK history lovers
Many folks will find it amazing that Briggs & Stratton started
business as an OEM – an original equipment manufacturer.

Most think Briggs’ claim to fame was, and is, in being an engine
supplier to OEMS.

That is certainly true, but they did so much more!

Briggs’ 1980’s publication of their history [The History of
Briggs & Stratton Corporation
] was the great statement.

It is an amazing booklet and I covered it … HERE.
[Read that first].

Note Briggs’ commitment to automotive transport from the earliest of days.

This story is about Briggs & Stratton’s exploring the possibilities
about automobile manufacture in the late 1970s. History will record
that Briggs was looking toward the future when they produced their
one-off Hybrid Car in about c1980. Think … who else was doing this then …?

This is about Briggs & Stratton – a century old survivor – attempting to
make itself relevant in the modern world. That story is on-going…

PART TWO - The 2020 Jay Leno video
Jay Leno’s video of March, 2020, is the first real video insight into the
B&S Hybrid. Remember this is forty-year-old technology.

Amazing for its day…

Briggs & Stratton saw in the late 1970s that fossil fuels would be
challenged in the future. That’s insightful, but not surprising. Briggs
has been around long enough to have reinvented itself on many
occasions in its long history. Electric technology was there from the
earliest days of B&S.

Enjoy the video!
