Slightly on/off topic, Tyler, I bought STP injector cleaner additive to use in my Laser. Should I use 98 unleaded as well such as BP Ultimate to maximise the effect or will my usual 91 be just as effective with this stuff? I just thought I'd give it a try. It claims to treat yo to 21 U.S gallons and the Laser would be little more than half of that.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
Good point Tyler. It claims to have 2x the cleaning agents of a tank of premium. It may become too strong for the good of the car or may work brilliant. An alternative is use with 91, fill next time with 91, then use 98. Or vice versa, use 98 only as a starter, use 91 then 91 with the STP.

I know my mechanic always puts cleaner in the fuel tank after servicing a vehicle. And he isn't a big name guy, just a family business. And he reckons it definitely helps, with the caveat that using 98 octane and decent oil does the same thing, one burning it out over time, and good oil to stop it building up in the first place.
Apart from that, as you told me yourself Tyler, chipping it off and getting it out is certainly the fastest way. I got most of it out of the old 84 Mustang by hand, but the rest can get burned out over time with using good fuel and synthetic oil.
I've heard the HP ratings aren't a lot different when using different unleaded fuels but this video shows the difference in carbon build up. One side of this engine runs 95 other side 98.
I'm a fan of following the manufactures specifications, All engines are designed to operate well within a certain temperature range and running any engine above a certain temperature range will lead to the premature expiry. Use the recommended RON rating and you shouldn't have any issues unless the mixture settings etc are wrong.
98 and good oil definitely helps - unfortunately most never check oil let alone use good oil
I was looking into that octane issue some months ago - carbon causing increase in compression, therefore the timing must be retarded to compensate (automatic in modern engines)
It's Penrite for life unless they plunge in quality one day. I could notice the smoother running of Penrite Vantage 15w 40 premium mineral over Shell Helix.
I grabbed a good deal at Repco recently with a 6 litre bottle for around $28 and three one litres for $5.90 each. That was to change the oil on the Laser and the Fairlane with about a litre left over for top ups.
Amazing how dirty the oil looked after 6 months and 3000km in the Laser when the intervals are 7500km. I would never let it go much beyond 5000 ever since I got it 10 years ago. It looked too dark on the dip stick by then.

I just picked up the products, will give them a go shortly (weekend provided we aren't all dead by then haha).
Absolute madness - repco down the road from aldi, people parking everywhere trying to get to aldi, no one in repco though. 2nd repco worker came back swearing becuase he went over to aldi to buy a bottle of coke (or aldi equiv) and it took him 30 mins to get through the check out
Bunnings packed - people buying potable water containers, jerry cans, charcoal, butane, butane stoves, shovels (?), head torches, fire lighters, several guys with homelite chainsaws all asking workers they need them 'in case' despite the fact they had no idea how to use one. One was confused why they were telling him to buy 2 stroke oil and chain oil, another thought you mixed the two into the fuel tank and thats what they run on.
Wonderful. I can see it now; we are fleeing from the zombies, break into some guys house and see a homelite chainsaw. "Aha! Take this Zombies!"..brp...brp...brp...wth? Take the petrol cap off, smell the 2 stroke and chain oil mix....oh nooooo
Interesting to (hopefully) see if you notice a difference with the concoction Tyler.
I went over to Mordialloc today to pick up the paint, fantastic like driving around on a Sunday. Tyler sounds like the Doomday Preppers are in full flight, but hey, they might know something that we don't
I can't see the point in buying 4 20l potable water containers - how long will that last 2 people?
Ive got 3 chainsaws here so I'm fine - Victa, Poulan and Ozito, plus 3 hedgers (maybe they will be stupid enough to think its a chainsaw)
BTW, the butcher was giving away a free roll of toilet roll with every $40 purchase - he has a warped sense of humor though
Half the time even if a homelite chainsaw was properly fueled up you would be dead meat by the time you had primed 10 times, choked, pull cord 4 times, off choke pull another 5, then wait 10 seconds to stop it bogging down on throttle.
