I just can't get my head around the wires that go in to the g4 Victa carby off a PT engine
I'm rebuilding a G4 Victa carby with some new parts and it all seemed pretty straight forward and understandable however one thing that confuses me are the ignition wires, (photo attached) these are the two wires thar go in through the cap and one terninal goes in to the body of the carburetor through the cap.
How do those wires actually work? Do they touch each other and act as a full circuit and does something from the plastic revolving piece to knock in to them to short circuit them them and therefore stopping the mower? I just can't really understand how they work.
Also does it matter which which wire and lug goes in to the main carby body or can they be installed in either opening of the terminal area or do they need to go in to the specific hole and will it only work if one of the cables goes in to the main body ?
Also if you connect up the carby and take the spark plug out of the engine and put the spark plug on the engine body and it sparks can you assume the wires on the carby have been installed correctly?
Hi Ted12, This abomination was the result of too many long lunches by the Victa design team. I gave up years ago spending countless hours getting them to work only to have them brought back days or weeks later with it not working or stuck and the cable could not be operated. The pins are supposed to come together when the throttle is moved to the stop position. Try that position and see if you still have spark
Yes, a bit of the rotary throttle control in the carb pushes one pin into the other.
No they are not the same. One is longer and has a machined down bit in the middle for the inner grommet. the longer one pushes into the body, shorter one goes through the side. if they are not both in you won't have a kill switch.
yes spark plug on the head would work fine.
If you wanted to, take the governor cap off, and take the diaphragm off, and you will see the stop switch working.
Without disassembling it you should see it work, the inner pin will move when you put the throttle to stop
I hate those things. I plug the hole and tape up the wires, and turn the machine off by turning the fuel tap off..... easy Better to make a kill switch. speedy

Speedy, I just run a wire up inside the snorkel how Victa should have done it in the first place instead of the junk idea they came up with. Not one of Victas brightest ideas

I did as suggested and tried the spark plug on the engine body and in the run position and it sparks. I also tried in the stop position and it doesn't spark so I must have put the wires in correctly.
As Norm says its pretty Mickey Mouse. I'm no engineer but it must have added in a few cents to put in a proper switch and might have resulted in an extra cable or additional switch mouth or something. Seems pretty amateur solution.
Yeah good point Nath about moving it with the cap off.
