I injured my back recently retrieving a power torque engine from a my own wheelie bin.

As a result I could only pull the starter cord on my regular Victa V160 from less than half way and very gently. To my great surprise the engine started.

I then have to jungle the throttle to various positions until the revs build up other wise it stops . There seems to be 'dead' spots in the throttle positions.Once going the engine runs well, even so it can still stop or greatly lose power if I change to a wrong throttle position.

Hi John2, and a big warm welcome to the forum. grin
Not being familiar with the Powertorque engine, I can't give you any advice on your problem, but I am wondering what your Powertorque was doing in a wheelie bin? WTF

PS. Thanks for giving me a heads up to the prob with my progress pics, I wouldn't have known otherwise. wink

john2,

You could have a look at the following:

1. Primer Cap to see if the line is horizontal.

2. Check all 'O' rings.

3. Check that diaphragm is sealed with cap.

4. Check governor hose is connected and hole in cap and block is clean.

5. Check for cracks in carby as well as where main jet screws into (it could have crack down stem).

Try this stuff and let us know what you find. cheers2

Hi Daryl.

The power torque engine was one off a complete mower that I found in a dumpmaster at a building site belonging to my neighbour who is a house builder.

The mower was discarded by folk unknown.

I got it home, put some fuel in it and it started via the zip cord. The electric start was defective.

I told my neighbour Peter about my find. He said I could have his old V160 if I wanted ..so now I had 2 spare mowers!

I decided to make one good one out of the 2 and threw the key start engine into my home wheelie bin.

A few hours later I had 'discarders remorse' and retrieved the engine, injuring my back in the process !

John

I have been out of action for a week now. I should never have looked at the spec house.

btw, Your pics now look good.

Thanx Bruce.

Appreciate your tips. I will check out your suggestions when my back is 90% recovered from injury, which should be late next week hopefully.

Okay, I have the block, the starter, the harness, battery, switch but I am trying to find a flywheel and key and magneto to suit.

Yes..I should not have discarded the key start engine/mower in the first place..the electric start motor was defective{gear missing to flywheel & no battery} but possibly could have been repaired.

I was fosicking through my wheelie bin trying to retrieve the actual electric start motor when the rubbish truck pulled up. That was the last I saw of it now I have regrets.

I am now going to try and purchase a Victa V160 key start mower as a hobby machine.

I will keep the engine I have for the moment. I will let you know Joe if I decide to call the project quits and get rid of the bits and pieces.

John
