Hello mower fans, I recently scored a classic Rover ride on (Model 7319) that runs well but throws the belt that turns the blades. The belt is obviously in poor shape so I want to replace it. Can anyone offer any advice on what I need to remove to get the old belt off and a new one on? Do I need to undo any bolts or would releasing the chain be enough to gain access? Also, what fuel should I put in it? Any advice or info about this machine would be gratefully received. Cheers, Josh

Hi fishman, Welcome here,we try to help. I have no Colt experience but there are a few basic things that can be looked at. Does it throw the belt whe bit is being used or when you disengage the cutter. If it comes off when you disengage it it is most likely the belt guide at either the cutter pulley or the engine pulley is allowing the belt to jump off. If the belt comes off when using it it is either an alignment problem or the belt is just worn out. Best way to work on them is drain the oil and fuel and either tip it on its side or if you can chain block it safely stand it vertically. This way you can get at everything and get a better idea of what is going on.

Thanks Norm, The belt was coming off while it was being used - I have removed it and it is very worn and lots of threads were wrapped around the cutter post(excuse the lack of technical terms). I am hoping to get a new one today and will give it a go. I can't see anywhere to get more tension but hopefully the new belt will do the trick.

Hi fishman, bad belt can/will cause that. More tension should not be needed, that won't keep the belt on
