Hello ODK history lovers
The domestic Australian rotary Lawn Wasp remains a mower of mystery.
There is little print evidence of its existence. I first came to know the make
via a Villiers ad from late 1959. That’s it there, listed in the third panel …

‘Wasp’ was always a problematic brand name; given that 'Wasp' was
used extensively across many makes of machinery. It was difficult
to research a ‘Lawn Wasp’.

I also knew a rotary ‘Wasp’ appeared in a Power Mower Trade-In Guide
for 1963/64 …

So, who made the Lawn Wasp?!
Clearly this is open to speculation, but there is some recent evidence …

PART TWO – Evidence
Bugger all evidence here! I have just two print adverts, both from 1960.
The first one I found years’ ago. It gives nothing away as to who made it: -
except for one little point - the cast Hurricane logo!

Recently I found a similar advertisement from September of 1960.
It appears to give the game away. Hurricane is mentioned!

The Lawn Wasp appears to have been a stencil brand made
by the Hurricane Manufacturing Co.

It would appear, then, that the rotary Lawn Wasp
was made by Hurricane. There is other evidence too!
