This subject had been bothering me quite a few years so I want to get it off my chest. Here in Ettalong on the central coast of NSW, I am situated in a somewhat low socio economic area with a section of well to do retirees and other folks in fancy looking homes while others have a very rough looking appearance to them living in cheap units and rental properties. I live in a fairly busy street during the day close to a small retail strip with some restaurants near by and I constantly get an unfriendly insular vibe from the locals here. Many who pass by our place look in and scrutinise you, often with negative body language that I can't put a finger on and many, especially the younger crowd have a snarky expression on their faces and suddenly stop talking as they walk past. It's a very pretty area spoiled by bad hostile vibes Fein people. There seems to be a lot of drunkenness on a Saturday night from young people going to and from the pub (not my scene at all) and just this mean insular word weird vibe many people. A lot flout the rules openly by riding their bikes on the footpath without helmets, speeding in their cars, loud exhausts etc. I haven't felt threatened but the faces of people around here just look hostile a lot of the time and it builds up inside. Even nearby localities feel better, though less than ideal as well.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Sorry MF, can't help you much, I live in a close (court) so get very little passing traffic and I only have passing contact with a few in the street. Neighbours on one side are absolute dogs and live like pigs and have been there 20 years but they are moving on in a few weeks and we can't wait, but still a little concerned as the block is large and we think the idea is to put a number of units on it. If this happens I'm insisting on the cypress trees be removed and that will fix my possum problem. Apart from that I drive in and out of my front gates and do not look at anything that goes on beyond them. Living near a pub or restaurants/shopping strip does have advantages and drawbacks. I rarely go to our local shops because it is very spot the Aussie there now. This has changed completely in the 40 years we have lived here but I just live in my own world now

I live on a main truck bypass, it’s great for selling things but unfortunately right along the path that is the trip home from the pub to what we call the Bronx just over the bridge down the road, I keep the front of the house relatively good, you still get snide looks and remarks from the posh credit card millionaires getting their stuff fixed otherwise we don’t have many issues, end of the day if they are giving me their cash I couldn’t care less what the passing traffic thinks.

Living out on acreage on a dead end street is great. All locals are either friendly or keep to them selves. Couldnt get me to go back to the suburbs no matter how much money you offered
