Hi There, I purchased a 70 year old surf shack last year in Falcon, traditionally a sleepy beachside getaway full of holiday homes and old asbestos shacks. The block is ~1200sqm and i've been bringing the lawn to life over the last 12 months with a bore and a couple of travelling tractor sprinklers. I have had a contractor run over the lawns for me but just this week have picked up a Scott Bonnar 45 in Kermit Green. I'm on here to learn more about using and maintaining my mower, and also how to get the best results out of my lawn. I've attached some photos below - the house and lawn when i bought it, the lawn now and of course the new Scotty!

Hi Falcon,

Firstly welcome to the ODK Forums, always great to have another Scotty Owner onboard, the more the merrier I say.

Well your Scotty has certainly had some work done on it as it has been fitted with a replacement engine at some point in time along with another clutch half as well. I will say that the catcher looks super clean, not sure if that's original or as wce has suggested it's refurbished but it does look straight that's for sure.

With some more close up photos of your new acquisition will help me make a more detailed qualification of it.

Some shots of inside the chain case will certainly be of great help.

For now, all the best,

Cheers,
BB.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I'll attach a couple more photos, but will take some close ups on saturday when i give her a run for the first time. Any information/observations you could provide are really appreciated.

Also I've never used one of these mowers, could you provide a link to a manual or youtube tutorial for startup and operation?

Cheers, Alan.

Hi Alan,

I've looked at many video's that are up on Youtube and everyone of them I could easily pick mistakes in, even some of our own video's are no longer quite relevant as they have holes in them that should be corrected by today's standards, but in saying that one has to just be able to take the good bits out of them and disregard the bad bits. It all comes down to experience I always say. You'll discover all this quickly.

My best advise is to motor around some of the Model 45 videos and get a generalised feel for what you've got in comparison to what they are showing and if there's something in particular you're not quite sure about you can always ask here as we won't lie to you due to any contractual arrangements we've got we've got with certain commercial ventures, as we have none of those.

Cheers,
BB.

Here's a couple more photos ðŸ‘

Looks to be in fairly good condition!

Can you boffins shed any light on the history of this old girl?

Not sure if I like being called a Boffin ? (apparently a nice way of saying a Geek, Nerd, egghead or spod)

Regardless you have an Eagle Farm made machine which is a Rover 45. The engine isn't the original unit so the machine can't be dated very accurately, but in saying that I'd say it was probably a mid to late 1980's machine.

It's mechanicals look pretty good but the chains require adjustment and also are in bad need of lubrication as they are very dry.

Is that a good enough info from a Boffin ?

No offence intended. In our industry, we refer to Subject Matter Experts as boffins.

Thanks for the information. I'll go out and get some lube for the chain tomorrow.

I'm looking forward to giving her a whirl for a first cut!

Thanks for all the info

All Good,

Just buy yourself a tub of Castrol HTB grease from one of the major auto stores.

Cheers,
BB.
