This weekend will see the first application of organic fertiliser and with the increasing temperatures the little microbes down below will be increasingly active. There's a definite green glow starting to show as the lawns respond to the earlier synthetic fertiliser kick, so now forward thinking turns to when to scarify, mow low, and top dress. This year will be just a very light top of sand to fill in a few gaps here and there. Sand is my choice so I don't import some other buggers weed seeds and the free draining nature of the media will ensure water and nutrients get to where they need to be.
Will probably do a test strip with the groomer reel after removing every second blade to make it more like a verticutter. Then I'll swap reels on the mower to the old one to get ready for the "post-top-dress" duties. I'll aim for 12mm again this season. No point going lower with the threat of warmer seasons and potential water issues.
Look away now BB. Project "backlap device" is in full design mode and the boys in the metal room have once again shown an interest in helping. Their suggestions are more than welcome and I hope to present more photos soon.
Have a good weekend all, and I hope you all get a chance to spend time outdoors working on your own patches of paradise!
This week sees a follow up fert organic of course, best for my dirt Embracing the warmth with each new day come the flora is responding, happy with my work done
It won't be long, maybe a week to go before thinking of doing a classic 'reno' To core and aerate and scarify down low stick to the plan - itβs the only way to go
Order the best top dress, of course it'll be sand delivered in bulko bags, now that'd be grand Less to clean up and no washout down the drain will save my back from doing it all over again
Its tough rewarding work, some say that I'm nuts it'll wow 'em in 4 weeks when my lawn's the ducks guts And people will come from far and from wide gobsmacked at my couch, cos' the plan I did abide
With all the work done I'm off to see my Son debut in Sydney Grade Cricket, hoping its runs he'll accrue Leave plenty of time when all the work is done to spend it with family - you know, our loved ones.
