This maybe a homemade job, but it supplies 12 V for camp use......
The engine is using a lot of oil , may need an oil seal.
Something to start on tomorrow....

That's brilliant speedy!
The colour and on-board controls indicate this was an AUS-spec
replacement stationary motor from B&S AUS.

These 13 Series were great engines.

Cheers

Hi Speedy,

Seems to me to be a big motor to run to only produce 12 volt power. Is there much these days that you can use with 12 volt power ? Many years ago there was a range of things that could be run on 12 volts, from memory washing machines, fridges radios etc but not sure what is around these days. Also looking at it I think the engine pulley should be bigger to have the alternator spinning as fast as it can to produce max power without the motor running flat out. What have they used as a regulator, I assume this would need to feed into a battery to have a stable power output?

It got an alternator on it and just ran lights at mates . He also charged batteries with it.........Not sure what else..
Don't know about regulator.. ?
He thought the other 5 HP on the firefighter was stuffed and was going me to just put this one on the firefighter....
He is puting big drums on a old 4X4 and trailer with firepump mounted, to be like a fire engine on his property.
I will have to get some pics as I have never seen the setup....

Speedy,

If he charged batteries on it it must at least have a rectifier on it somewhere you can't charge a D/C battery with A/C current you will fry the battery. Lights will run ok because they don't care if the get A/C or D/C. Anyway good project to work on.

Hi

Some of those car alternators had the rectifier and regulator built in. But you would need a battery in the circuit to energize the field coils. It's see surprising how much power is needed to drive a big alternater. 100 amp alternator is at least 1.2kw but usually a lot more. Driving it slow would help of.course.

Oil change with Moreys oil treatment, wire wheel on drill for flywheel, clean coil ends and check air gap..Drain fuel tank. Better spark plug, a good air filter of something, packed up to fit. Spray all linkages with Boston penetrating fluid.....
Runs perfectly, no oil leaks, smooth, easy start...
I hope my back is OK as I lifted it into boot and out of at his place.......
I might seem a bit rough.............
Found a great plastic squeeze bottle for filling B&S engines....... from kids coloured power game....
Better that trying to tip oil in from a tin or funnel.

He puts 12 V into battery bank and uses an inverter to convert to 240v for whatever....... And the altenater has a regulator...
cheers

Sounds like a good setup Speedy, not sure how efficient generating 12 volts to 240 volts is but if it just solves one problem I guess it is worth it. Hope your back is ok, we keep doing it.

That's how I fill the briggs speedy - I use a cool ridge water bottle 600ml. Easy to tip into the vertical shaft, and can't over fill.

Out of interest, what does the Morey's stuff do?

Hi Tyler,
It improves compression, friction proofing...like STP, it's American old.... I use it in old 4 strokes.
