Hi all. I decided to replace the 3hp Briggs and Stratton engine I had on my 20” SB with a Kirby HK30 which this model was originally fitted with, simply just to keep it period correct.

Hi Bergy,

I think I may have commented on this fact when you originally put up the photos of the 3 machines together. I've always felt that the Kirby visually was the better looking engine on the wide 20 inch machine over the Briggs units. I'd take a punt and say that the primer was not period correct on those HK-30's as they were used more so on the H-4 4A engines which were used primarily on the 14 inch model 45 when they dropped the Briggs 2Hp Silver 6000 Series engines and SB changed over to the twin rail Series II design.

Regardless your static display piece is "simply irresistible".

Cheers,
BB.

Beautiful, Bergy. Not much else you can say!

The Kirby is by far the better looking engine. Sounds nicer too.

I also have noticed that over the years that a good Kirby does sound better than a good Briggs, and looks are just divine over the square block looking Briggs, especially with the larger forward sitting fuel tank.

Cheers,
BB.

PS. Bergy,

Now that you've done the 20 inch machine I guess you'll be also doing the 17 inch machine which would've originally come with a Kirby HK25 and also some H-4 4A's were fitted as OEM.

Only the 14's were ever fitted with Briggs units on Series One Machines.

Cheers,
BB.
