This is funny. I saw that exact same catcher at the dump shop yesterday. I wondered what it must fit. I bet it is gone today. The catchers were going for $5 each!
Norm, I've come across plenty of loons, especially on ebay. I tried to bargain a guy down from a ridiculous $250 for a vintage item once that was actually worth about $30-$45. He sent me a very long email to inform me about how long he had looked after this item and about how it belonged to a late relative so had high sentimental value for him and he went on and on about the many reasons why he considered it to be very rare. He said any day soon, people would be swarming to get their hands on this rare antique. Next day I found that he had put the price up to $600. Well it sat there on the auction site for months and months. Nobody bought it. Eventually he dropped the price back to $450. I sent him another email to ask if he had changed his mind and would consider my earlier offer of $45, which was a fair price. I wasn't really that interested in the item. Again he ranted and raved that he would soon be fighting off the droves of bidders with sticks once they get wind of his valuable item. The next day I noticed he had changed the price to $800. I gave up trying to tell him otherwise. Obviously he was a tad delusional.
I came across another seller on a NZ auction site some years ago. I can't recall the name of the site, but it allowed sellers to cancel auctions if they did not like the sale price. This guy would put a really low price on the item, so people would bid, then when you would go to checkout he would cancel the auction and re-list the item. This happened a couple of times, so I thought I would PM the seller to ask what is up. I made him a generous offer and he replied that no matter how high I bid he will never sell it to me. I asked "Well why have you got it listed, if you don't want to sell it?" He replied that he is interested in selling it, just not to me. Then he ranted on about Australia being inhabited by extreme Nazi Fascists! I had never met this person in my life. So I asked a friend to enquire about the item. He got told the same story, plus the tirade about Nazis. We could not figure out if he was just trying to get a current market value on his item, or if he just had a few screws loose. We both agreed it was the latter.
