Thanks AVB what I thought, didn't think it would work but always pays to ask. I think I will go with the weld but I might just put a small spot of weld in 6 spots, this saves the ring effect of a weld all the way around, then I can turn it back to suit the bearing.It is just a roller bearing so it should be fine.
