Hi Nicholas,
Thank you very much for your very comprehensive "go to links" for a Model 45 Restoration.
I understand that you've gone to a lot of effort to compile all this information and its superb that it's all in one post, but sadly all of the eBay links will in a very short time become defunct as the listings will all end and are relisted time and time again. Anyway it will give many potential restorers a good idea as where to look for many of the most commonly used bits and pieces that are sourced to do the whole job as you've done.
One thing that is missing I've noticed in all the photos is the handle bar assembly, what is happening there ? painting or Electroplating ?
I'd love to see it re-plated but we all understand if the cost refers you back to painting it. There aren't many plating shops left in Adelaide so there's not much competition in pricing. Sadly there have been just too many EPA rules and regulations introduced which makes it no longer cost effective to Electroplate here in Australia unless you charge like a wounded bull, which is pretty much what they all do now.
I guess all you have to do is see what's happened down Mitchell Park / Melrose Park way with all the ground water contamination that's come from all the Plating Shops etc. that used to be down in that area that were just pumping their waste plating solutions out all over the ground which was common practice in many industries for too many years.
Now it all has to be contained and transported to a Chemical processing plant to nuetralise it which costs huge money. Every shortcut has its ramifications I guess and now we have to live with the consequences of that stupidity that was engaged in for too many years.
Anyway I'm going slightly off topic here, but I still love to see a nicely chromed set of handle bars which compliment all the other hard work that's been done on the main working part of the machine.
Well done so far and we're looking forward to the next batch of photos as this project nears its completion point.
BTW what's happening with that lovely 20 inch Ex Adelaide Oval Scotty you bought recently ?
Cheers,
BB.
