Hello
ODK History Lovers
News Cuttings was Victa's official news publication to its dealer network.
Probably introduced in the late 1950s, it would be no more than a few pages
in length.
This
early 1966 issue is of some interest; because it covers so may diverse topics.
The front-page lead story is about ... Royalty - a big seller for monarchy-loving
Australia of the 20th Century. Prince Philip flew a
Victa Airtourer - great
publicity for Victa!

For me, the other page-one lead story was of some significance.
It was a story that challenged the
'Cultural Cringe' - the view that one's
own national culture is inferior to the cultures of other countries. I reproduce
that article below. There is a truth: Australia was leading the world in small
rotary lawnmower design at that time.
Page Two continues the story of
Victa's P.K. Films from the previous year -
with Queensland screenings featuring. There is a SALTS story (smiled a little
then stopped) of a child's recount of 'Daddy' and his lawnmower.
There was a "What's Wrong" story. Can you spot the error in the picture? No,
not a wardrobe malfunction. I will give you a clue ... you need to 'zoom-in' and
'pour-over' the facts... You may not have noticed, but good detail shots
of a 1966 Victa Corvette 2 too.
Page Thee covers more Mowathons - this time in NSW [see Link below], and one
from Victoria. Victa clearly - and cleverly - understood the link between community,
charity, and commercial publicity. Victa knew how to sell!
Page Four covered a Service Guide - and propaganda - for the efficiency of
two-stroke engines. There was a nice story on a competition with 'New Australians'
as winners. Yes, the
Victa Wise cartoon and an amusing
Victa Cuts column ...
