I think I may have answered at least one of my questions.

The flat 'tab' under the mixture and idle screws had some flakey paint on it...so I carefully removed the paint with a sharp pocket knife..and "Wallah!!!...the stamped number "302' appeared.

I used this number to cross reference on the following website and I came up with a Tecumseh Pt No of "631471"
