Usually the mulch and catch mowers are alloy base units and that would make a difference in how it fits as you are saying that your machine is a steel frame.

I would be suggesting that you have a think about making your metal frame mower into a mulch and catch. The reason being is that the frame will rust out near the left side handle bracket (when you are standing behind it).

Grass clippings are very corrosive with metal and to see this you can do a test buy putting a garden fork into a pile of clippings for about a week or two and when you pull it out you will see where it is starting to rust.

I have seen many many Victa's with the frame rusted out around the left handle and this is because people do not clean it out.
