I actually did try while it was on the mower
for that test for compression, I could feel the valve operate

I do have a diagram in the book of one of the old ones you could disassemble (and repair ~ rebuild) but it would be better to pull one a part... in that regard..

I think for some strange reason you do get a better feel for how things work when you disassemble something & play around with it ..take it through it motions
