Thank you thank you .. sorry for not getting back earlier with a post I did read yesterday your post but didn't have time to post a responce. Much appreceiated your response and thank you for sharing your knowledge. And yes you were correct in all cases. Did the repairs as you advised and have just this afternoon mowed the lawn, and after 20 min of mowing no noise at all , all ran with no problem. I do recall the service man showing me this section of the start system back in 97 and I sure he probibly oiled the shaft then ,well it needed it again,as you said .
Now about the model number I did find one on the engine housing

The only number that I could say I recognise would be 08791 if this is the stamp for year of manufacture that sound about right i purchased this mower in 82 second hand so 08 is month and 79 is year if I am correct.
