In regards to your query; No mate, you can't pack the bedknife to get adjustment, the bedknife is fixed with special screws to the soleplate, which in turn is attached by bolts to the mower frame, so it is the cylinder reel that adjusts up or down to it....in fact the reel does not contact the bedknife at all; there is a minute clearance between the two, however it will cut paper all along its length when correctly set up.
This is a little tricky to do at first, but you will succeed providing the reel bearings are not worn and are running true.
