OK. what's my next steps to check this? I could either:
Buy a second hand mower $250 from the mower shop (Rover, 4 stroke B&S engine) or spend time on this.
Budget says do this.
So what's the next steps to check for wear?
It's running: It starts, and it runs.
* It stalls when it's on IDLE
* It chokes & backfires when going through moderate grass (it is winter, so it probably won't survive the summer)
* it sounds clankety - not sure if that's the sharpened but still easily swivelled blades. I suspect something more..
Should I
a) pull muffler off and look for scoring on the side of the bore?
b) check for wobble in the base plate ( How exactly?)
c) replace / repair the decompression plug?
Not sure what to do next..
