No reason why it wouldn't work but the whole idea of fitting the tank snug in under the body is to keep them compact so they can fit in the smallest possible box for shipping. And if you put the tank on top then you would have my greatest bugbear, a float needle . I know they can make float needles that work, it is just that I have been damaged by float needles over the years
