Glad to have provided some food for thought Norm, but I'll leave the clever engineering projects for you. I'll just continue saving abandoned mowers from going directly to landfill by simple means like removing tiny bits of crud from main jets and replacing tired spring systems with pieces of string.
Going for a wider cut wouldn't work on that large area in the second photo. It is a lot steeper in parts than it looks and consists mainly of dips and mounds over a sandstone base. I've already ground down the highest points with mowers that ended up in scrap metal bins
Under the trees are a myriad of gnarly roots - those spots are tackled by brushcutter only.
And if you consider my mower mods dodgy, well, for medico-legal reasons there's no photos of what I do at the business end of my brushcutters, suffice to say the first things to go are the guards and any safety features.
