No. You need a PT with the longer shaft to replace it otherwise the blades will sit too high underneath and the mower will be dragging along the ground for a normal cut.

Sounds like it got loaned to a mate who straight fueled it. Never loan out your machinery to a mate, least of all a two stroke. Most people are too rough on their own equipment, not to mention other's.
