I didn't realise the deck would just keep spinning without the cutter brake, but it makes sense.
Hello MattDT and RLP
When safety requirements for AUS ride-ons started to take effect in the 1980s, I distinctly remember the problems faced with poor quality interlock switches. But ...
The other safety issue lay with the traditional design philosophy of AUS ride-ons ... that used heavy blade holders and blades, as opposed to the much lighter North American bar blades.
Blade brakes struggled to slow high inertia, heavy disc blade holders.
Here - ultimately - owners just forgave and forgot about wearing pads. Blades would stop in their own time. Let it be.
The safety solution was simple: we had to use multiple, smaller bar blades on our ride-ons. That is what happened.
The rest is history. ------------------------------- Jack
