Hi All,
I recently brought a Dunlite 5KVA generator at the local Tip shop. It appeared to have a seized engine (B&S 11hp side shaft, manufactured about 1980), I got the pull start off and freed the piston but after taking the head off I found a scour mark on the bore. I think its repairable and want to give it a go as the the generator is a no fuss unit and very rugged. The question I'm asking is how do you get the armature off? I had unbolted the coil section but have come to a halt as the armature is not budging. I have included some photos. The black aluminium housing appears to be bolted to the underside of the motor and has obvious way to remove without taking the armature off. I suspect that it is attached to the main shaft by a keyway, and if thats the case I have heard of keyways twisting given the high rpm the generator operates at if the engine stops suddenly.
I hope some one can suggest a way of getting the armature off as I would like to keep the unit running as a gennie rather than demolishing the armature to salvage the engine.
