someone on my facebook page has recently posted a picture of the same type of mower, he has said this mower will most likely go up for sale soon. This mower has the same type of engine and is also put on that way.

Hello Kye and the Pope

My guess is that it is a Hurricane from the mid-1960s.
The issues are not simple, or identification conclusive.

The engine is definitely a Hurricane 2-stroke.
Hurricane engines powered some mowers in the mid-to-late 1950s.

In the early 1960s, Hurricane decided to manufacture complete mowers.
They had at least one side-discharge model and possibly two rear-discharge.

I think the mower in the photos is this one:-

Hope this helps.

A big problem with the motor facing that way is if you push the mower under a bush the bush touches the plug and cuts the motor out, and with those 2 strokes once they stopped when hot they wouldn't restart for half an hour

The trick is to pull it around, not push it. Crawl under the bushes with the mower behind you - eye protection recommended. This guy had the right idea...

Hello all Contributors

Bestseller, I must say that link revealed quite a 'different' movie.
I understand it has a cult following. The 'sausage organ' is also
quite ... 'out there'.

I have some extra evidence.
I have said that this rare mower is a Hurricane, with a Hurricane engine.
The Caboolture Historical Village has one and they corroborate my view.

p.s. The catcher is not original, and appears to be off a Victa.

This is the story of Hurricane.

Hi Jack, any idea when the Hurricanes first started. The one I was given about 45 years ago was very similar to the Rotomo. From memory it had a central screw adjuster for the height. It was an old mower when I was given it

G'day Norm

Engine production from the mid-1950s.
Mower production from early 1960s.

If you had a machine similar to a Rotomo then it probably would
not have been a Hurricane, but a Hurricane-powered mower.
Best guess, an Amplion.

Cheers

Threw the mower out countless years ago but I think I still have the motor here tucked away somewhere
