Hello Yellow,

That looks like a nice original Bonmow.
It is less common to see the 4-stroke machines.

I have a question: does the manual include a parts list & diagram?

Cheers.

Hi Jack,

The manual has a black and white photograph with numbers in triangles from 1 to 12 on the photo and names next to each. It then says to contact them for the part.

Thanks for that.

I must say, I've never seen a 4 stroke Model 19.
All the brochures show the Villiers 3G 2-stroke.

Cheers.

Hi Yellow and Cyberjack,
This is a very interesting machine and like Jack, I have not seen a Model 19 with this type of Villiers engine fitted.
Would it be possible to post a pic of the data plate of the engine (ie. the one affixed to the metal air cowling) so we may determine what model of Villiers it actually is....
Many thanks mate,
cheers2

Hello Administrator Deejay and Yellow.

Yes, a good one for the record. My guess, a Ballarat MK10 engine.
I have sent a PM to Yellow offering to purchase a good scan of the manual.
[for the record]

In the meantime, maybe a member might be interested in this rare Bonmow 14.

All very interesting.

Hello Yellow and ADMIN Deejay,

We appreciate you taking the time to deliver that information.
This now forms part of the record for this model. Thank you.

FOR THE RECORD
In terms of significance I would like to say something about this machine.
Post-war, the Model 19 was the first milestone in a change in direction
of Scott Bonnar. Its pre-war designs were clearly outdated and there
was a thrust to enter the petrol-powered residential lawnmower market.

The Model 19 was the first fruit of that endeavour. It introduced the
hair-trigger landroll clutch to SB machines. Its weakness (and charm) is
the lack of an isolation clutch to the reel.

The fact that this machine has a Ballarat Villiers links to significant
Australian companies: the great Scott Bonnar and Villiers Australia.

I have no doubt this is an authentic machine in very good original condition.
It would have looked stunning in its Pacific Blue and red colours.

It is most unusual to see a red engine block with blue cowling.
Manufacturers don't go to that trouble anymore. I guess it was
'a matter of pride'.

I hope this goes to a good home.
