hi,
i recently picked up a rover self propelled slasher for a few hundred bucks. i convinced the wife to get a cheap second hand one as its a. cheaper and b. something to muck around with in the shed.
the problem i have is the thread on the right axle has been stripped on the end. there isnt enough remaining when the wheel is on. my temporary solution has been to take the spacer out from between the two wheel bearings which allows the nut to turn a few more times on the good thread as it squeezes the wheel together. obviously this is not a long term solution.
the other options i have are:
a. rethread the axle with a 15mm thread as the current is 5/8. (cheap)
b. get the axle turned on a lathe ($$)
c. find a replacement rear axle assembly - part no. A00300 as per the manual. cant find it anywhere. i asked the local rover dealer bit its no longer in he database
d. replace only the axle with a new one which would require possibly grinding off the axle from the assembly and rewelding the new one on.
e. replace the entire rear axle assembly from another mower.
what would you fellas recommend. are the old parts even still available?
cheers,
brad
