G'day everyone,

I am just asking if there is any differences between genuine and none genuine Victa parts. I know on some parts the difference is obvious as say the Victa stampings and numbers for cutting blades etc.

But what I would like to know is can you tell the difference between say a genuine G4/LM Victa primer cap to an aftermarket primer cap?

Also can you tell the difference between a genuine Victa G4/LM carby float to an aftermarket carby float?

As for the needle well the original Victa ones were coloured red. I see now they offer aftermarket needles in black and yellow? And they have different size lengths, what ever happened to just having the one standard Victa red needle for the G4/LM carby? lol

The price difference between some of these parts is quite alot, and it would be good to know that you are at least getting the true genuine part you are paying for instead of the cheaper aftermarket part.

Please any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Good day Converse,
I have read on here that the yellow and black aftermarket needles are useless and the newly developed viton tipped metal needles are now the way to go, though not 100% reliable that one of those will work properly either.
The aftermarket primer caps are actually smaller in diameter I have also read, with smaller o ring. Why, I don't know!

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

MF, haven't noticed any different in the primer caps but I have gotten dodgey "O" rings from an ebay supplier so I get mine direct from China for a fraction of the cost, get probably 10 for the price I was paying for them here. I get the thicker ones and I have no problems with them. The aftermarket needles just don't work, obviously the genuine Victa ones did work, but now they are all coming from the one source and are all rubbish. Viton ones are the only one I can get to work.

Good afternoon all,

I have looked specifically at the aftermarket mufflers, on VC type mufflers I have seen that genuine ones have the wire gauze and behind the gauze is an angled baffle plate. On the aftermarket units there is the gauze but no baffle plate fitted.

G'day there Mowerfreak, NormK and Paul_c,

I am also asking as I recently purchased a genuine primer cap and needle. Anyway what I noticed right away as I bought some bits from an online store is that they supplied me with a black needle. I sort of knew right away this doesn't look like a genuine Victa needle. I am sure the original Victa ones are red. But then again it has been many years since I last bought one so I assumed maybe the new Victa ones are black?

That's when I went searching on the internet last night and on ebay and have found some information that these are aftermarket. At the end of the day the needle doesn't cost much I can just find a genuine Victa red one they are still available from other ebay sellers.

But now I am thinking the primer cap they have also supplied me is probably not genuine also. As there is no real way of telling the difference.

Yes I know all about how good the new Viton needles are NormK, but all I wanted was a standard genuine red Victa needle to try out with my new primer cap and float.

I have the standard Victa red needle in my full crank carby and it has worked great since the day I installed it. Maybe I have been lucky I don't know. I don't ever touch it as it always starts and runs all day and I never have any leaks from the primer bulb.

Cheers!

I think the black ones are the short ones, if you are going to use it then you need to make sure the float doesn't hit the tower when the float is fully raised. All I can say is why bother with the plastic rubbish when there is a better product out there to be had, previously I had to deal with the plastic junk that had a 90% failure rate. Anyway good luck with it
