Hi All,
I am new to the forum and have recently enjoyed reading some the threads on a number of the forums.
I just acquired a Scott Bonnar 45, on the advice of my son, who is a qualified green keeper and am keen to know a little more about it's history, so if anyone can assist me, I would appreciate it.

Cheers,

Hello Andrew62

A warm welcome to these forums.
There is no shortage on information on these great mowers.

You have a first-model 14", Model 450415.
This little machine remains a firm favourite with collectors.

Introduced in late 1968 for the 1969 season, yours dates
(best guess) to late 1971, maybe early 1972.

Hi Andrew,

As Jack has already eluded to and as such I concur with him that your machine was probably built November~December 1971 which was at the height of domestic cylinder cut machines being made by the Scott Bonnar company.
Thanks for adding that air cowl photo as it holds the secrets regarding the build dates of these machines.

Cheers,
BB.

Hi Jack & BB,
Thanks for your feedback on my recent purchase, which I must say left my slightly gobsmacked at the year's mentioned; as it's only slightly younger then me! That said, it also came from an age when products were built to last and quality was king.

Hello Andrew and Mod BB

The thing is, you possess an anomaly in lawnmower history.

This is a classic example of a classic, enduring design.
The second point is that folks have seen this - with good parts
availability making this quite unique in designs.

This machine - from our age - can easily live on, with the assurance
it is better than any domestic reel mower made half-a-century later.

How about that!

Hi All,
I am looking for a manual, including a parts section for my SC 45 -14", Model 450415. If anyone could assist I would be grateful.

Hello Andrew62

I can assist here.
This is a parts list for the first Model 45 14" from my collection.
The list is from when the Electrolux Group held Scott-Bonnar, a
couple of years after the introduction of the Model 45 (c1968)

I have spent some time collating this model from the manual.

The note-worthy thing is that the 450415 had two different Briggs model engines ...
the Briggs 60102 and the 61202. The second digit signifies the basic design series.

What was the difference?
Later machines - 61202 - were fitted with the Pulsa-jet carby.
How about that!

Hope this helps

Hi Jack,
Your a true legend! As looking online was proving to a nightmare of muddled explanations and a lot of misinformation? Once again you have proven yourself to be a treasure trove, not only of historical information but documentation!

I really appreciate your help with your knowledge and willingness to help us mere mortals on this forum!

Cheers,

Andrew

G'day Andrew
You speak wisely, young sage ... laugh
I am embarrassed.

The surprise for me - in looking at this - was the change in
carby on the last examples of this model. The move from the original
Vacu-jet to a Pulsa-jet is something I will note from now on.

There is another surprise too - that the Model 40 was also fitted
with a Briggs 6 Series in its final years!

Yep, there is so much misinformation and obfuscation out there.

Many thanks

Evening All,
Further to my previous post with Jack, can anyone tell where is a good place to get spares for my SB? I have been trying to get a air cleaner gasket/mount, part number 6207096, I thought All Mower Spares in NSW could help but it's looking like no joy?

Hi Andrew,

I gather you are referring to the black rubber section on top of the carby which has the breather pipe fitted to it ?

If so I'm pretty sure you'll have to source one from a defunct engine as they are not available new anymore.

Cheers,
BB.

Hi Bonnar Bloke,

Thanks for your response and yes that's correct, the breather pipe inlet has split in a couple of places. So I was hoping there may have been an after market source available.

Hello!
I am also new here (6 years later than the OP).
I found this thread as I also was searching for the Air filter mount, as mine has identically split at the breather tube inlet.
Since I can't get a reasonably priced alternative, I am going to slather on some silastic.

Me:
I have a new (to me) 14" model 45, which going by the serial numbers on the plate and the engine, is likely a year-18months older than Andrew's.

Same 60102 motor (60102 0302 01 7005123) which I think means manufactured May 1970.
Scott Bonnar Serial# 45 18132

I bought it from a gent who had used it for the last approx 27years. And he'd bought it as a runner. So I suspect it has had close to 55 year's service!
I cut my lawn with it this morning before inspecting it further, all looks in great shape, only missing one reel adjuster nut, the handlebar plate, and it can breathe through the hole in the filter spacer. Motor starts second pull.

Will address the carby issues first, do another mow, then will tinker with it over winter.
