Evening all

Thought I should post the link to this Victa mustang with thumblatch catcher.

Seems the catcher is intact and looks in overall good condition for its age (except the front wheels). Might make a good economical addition to someones collection.

Would be a shame to see it used and abused as a cheap mower.

It has to be saved Tyler. That's among the last of that design made, going by the front label and series 80 label.
I like the cream top with green deck.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Yes, that one really marks the end of an era - after that, they started going cheaper and cheaper chassis.

Hopefully someone who appreciates it for more than just being a cheap mower ends up getting it.

I happened across good condition (including thumblatch catcher) 1980 Victa at the tip last week. Right at the back of a sea of 11 Chondas (I checked them all and not one choke closed fully - almost all had broken starters).

Bit of a shame the victa has a vertical pull briggs, but it started 2nd pull. Has a bit of a main seal leak - I tipped in a bit of Rislone stop leak to see if it helps. If I have to take the blade carrier off to fix the main seal, a nice 2 stroke will be taking the briggs' place.

The Full Crank Side Pull Mustang that supersedes it used the same chassis at that one by the looks of things, but with a new design dress cover that still screwed to the chassis in the same fashion, along the high arch chute. It lived on until at least well into 83, if not, right until 84 when the PT arrived.
There was also a secondary high arch thumb latch chassis for the FCSP, positioned under the Mustang in the hierarchy called the Corvette and the Corsair models, each in turn, with different levels of features.
That chassis also existed since about 1976 for various Victa and store brand models.
That "second tier" thumb latch alloy high arch chassis ended up taking over for the 1984 Mustang model with the Powertorque engine -which I have in my collection!
Soon after, Victa used the Vortex based thumb latch chassis for their premium priced thumb latch series PT line up.

Regards the mower with the Briggs, I expect you may be able to fit a powertorque two stroke but not a FC as the bolt pattern is smaller size than the Briggs/PT.

As your signature says MF, the thumblatcher catchers are very good.

I momentarily forgot about the white cowled SPFC victa - and for some reason I thought the 1983 corvette had the later style catcher (and chassis) that the low end commando and charger first had.

With regard to the briggs engined mower - bugger. I might persist with it for a bit longer. haha

I also have a top dog SPFC Victa self propelled with the "PowerPlus" engine. It doesn't start, the self propelled part is stuck in the "on" position, so every time you pull the starter, the wheels move a little bit. Must pull him out and have another tinker.

Yes it is in good looking condition. I have not seen one like that before with the snorkel going through the cowl, be a bit of a pain to set up, put the snorkel through the cowl and then fit the carby and kill switch.

I had one like that. There is a gap at the bottom which allows you to slip the snorkel in.
