Jeff I'm wondering if they are a different base again I am kicking myself for selling the grey base I had without checking to see if a PT would bolt straight on. It still had a sliding plate but with a Briggs on it and I just assumed the PT would have bolted onto that plate but with redrilled holes. If the bloke brings it back for any reason I will offer to buy it back from him
MF anybody who has one just looks at them as a beautiful piece of purpose built equipment

Believe me NormK & JFB the beer goggle effect has well and truly hit. Our reminds be of a top fuel dragster.
I too would love to find out how easily you could Powertorque a four stroke 600. Don't forget it has a unique snorkel. What is that add on above the head of the engine?

MF I am pretty sure you can fit a PT on a 4 stroke base, the 4 stroke I had here on the sliding plate did not have the bid diameter hole that you need fr a PT to fit, it had that kidney shape hole to suit that lower section that the Briggs has that is lower than the motor base

I think a factory PT slasher is the way to go going by the video where the motor is clearly attached direct to the base with the matching hole to the bottom raise of the powertorque engine.
I think I just want one to show off now.

I have been down there looking at mine again. The hole in the base for a factory PT 24 must be pretty big in the North South direction otherwise there would not be much adjustment for the belt. The bottom of the flywheel is pretty big. The PT seems hard down on the base in that video so I think the base is very different to my FC 24. MF please go ahead and get that factory PT 24 so we can all know what really happens. Norm found one in Warragul, just a bit expensive. Might be worth it cause it can not be that old.

That's the one I meant. It looked fairly new etc in grey, not orange like the older ones.

Still too expensive but maybe not a lot. And its nowhere near any of us.

MF not bicycle wheels. Heaven forbid. Wouldn't last 5 minutes.

Excellent job there Jeff. You obviously got the pulley sorted, how did it work out height wise?. How did you get on with the motor mounting bolts,exhaust looks like it worked out ok. Did you end up getting a top cover from a unit with the external fuel tank. Front wheels look like Tornado. Anyway well done.

Front wheels are 8" Sanli. They are almost new of a base that I took the motor off. I made an adjustable fore/aft link so I could get the blade disc attitude correct.

Pulley worked out easy just machined a recess for the PT blade boss on the back of the existing pulley, can still use it up the other way for a FC.

I needed to lift by about 20 mm as I expected. Got the pulley height pretty close to the 34mm you suggested. I made a spacer by cutting off the whole skirt of a PT that I had here that was straight fueled.

The top cover is from a PT utility I bought recently, I just put an ordinary PT top cover and fuel tank that I had here on that one. My yard is pretty small can easily mow the lot on just one ordinary tank.

The fuel tank is the original Super 24 tank. It does not leak but there are some obvious looking cracks. May not work out in the long run. I'll send the Utility handle tank with the 24 in case its needed.

I'll send all the rest of the original stuff including a side pull full crank (SPFC) motor as well.

Not sure about the exhaust. It seems perfect for that front slot but I noticed later that it exhausts directly on the belt.Belt might get contaminated, do not know..Might have to deflect it a bit.

Definitely would not do it again. Too much work. In the midst of all this (after I had done most of the conversion work on the 24) I picked up 2 SPFC's cheaply one of which seems good enough to use on the 24 if necessary.

I notice that's the old super 24 base with the chunkier hub over the blade without the slots.
Quite an achievement fitting a half crank to that. Abit of old and new(er).

Thanks Jeff, yes the Sanli wheels look the same as the Tornado, I have one of those Sanlis here and was looking at the wheels yesterday while I was fixing a Tornado, but I just assumed they would be a half inch axle and not 9/16th.

The axle size is different, I thought that Sanli was bigger. I changed over the whole front axle, it just needed widening a bit and the wheel mounts extended a bit. Left the old front axle untouched although the axles are badly worn. I think those Sanli wheels are great.

Ok so I now have a 24 with a PT motor fitted, this one is yellow and the motor looks to be a standard shaft, not a long shaft. I now have it running but the motor is making a strange noise, not sure what it is. The base looks similar to the grey one I had that had a Briggs fitted on it, but I think there is another wing on the back of the base to take the bolt on the left hand side of the PT motor. The other thing I discovered was the pull start was broken so I put another one on with a new "O" ring. The starter seemed to slip into the housing too easily. I had bought thicker "O" rings, I think they were 2.4mm, I had tried them on a motor when they arrived but they seemed too thick, on this motor they were a perfect fit. This could be an issue with some motors, my first inkling was because it would fire on starter fluid, so I assumed the problem to be with the bottom seal as I had fitted a new "O" ring in the starter. With the thicker "O" ring it starts fine now, just this strange noise

I'm sure you will sort it out. Somewhere I read that the Super 600 has a VEX 60 5hp motor on it. It should have a straight inlet manifold not the offset normal one. I'm not sure when the VEX 60 came out but perhaps after the orange PT 24. I would expect the shaft to be normal not long. No need for long as the pulley on mine was already too low. What do they do with the exhaust?. Newer ones seem to have a special slot for it. Whats the engine pulley look like? Is there a sliding plate or is the motor mounted straight on the base?

Noise could be anything but I am surprised that you have not heard it before. I guess the crank bearing has a different loading on it then normal with the belt tensioned up very tight as they must be. Mine does not sound the same as a normal PT. There is a slight noise from the belt and its noisier than a normal PT. I have had to put some extra packing in the muffler to quieten it down a bit. Sounds like a professional slasher which is what it is. Maybe ear muffs are needed.

Yes it has the straight manifold. The exhaust goes through the base slot on the left hand side, this slot was also on the grey one I had but being a Briggs on it it wasn't used. I haven't looked at the pulley yet, have to tip it up to do that and at this stage I'm trying to figure out the noise and if I can't then I will have to change the motor, then I can put some pics of it here. No sliding plate, motor bolts directly to the chassis.Muffler on this one is noisy too, I find the majority of them are.
Noise has me stumped, doesn't sound like bearings, more of a scraping/scratching/something hitting noise, I had one similar recently but it was a FC and I swapped over everything I could but the noise remained, had to be internal somewhere. Motor ended up in the "I will look at that one day pile"
