I can't believe someone has brought up the subject of desk fans and quality of their silent running.
I just serviced two fans the other day which mainly involved cleaning the dust off the propellers. It's amazing how much it improves air flow performance. The dust clearly affects aerodynamics of the fan ears.
I have a third oscillating one with three speed controls, inherited from my late paternal grandmother that she purchased new about 1979 and it was going like clockwork until a few weeks ago when sparks started crackling out of the buttons on the base. It was beautifully silent and blew a gale in your face, so much so, I mostly had it on number one setting.
Upon examination, I discovered this (now defunct) Waltons store branded Celestial fan was made in Japan! No wonder it lasted so long and was so solid looking. I want to save it and get it going again. I wonder who could repair it?
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Guys, I'm trying really hard not to be a Debbie Downer, but this sub-forum is for "Lawn Care and Maintenance".  Off Topics would probably be more appropriate for Simpson Washing machines, BTW I'm an "American Whirlpool" man myself. LOL ! Cheers, BB.
I live a 24 Hour lifestyle, but every now and again I seem to fall asleep, well at least that's what my wife tells me.

There's a loose connection in as far as Waltons also sold Celestial mowers!

I reckon can get back to lawn mowers. Have any of you use a hover mower? It is a mower without any wheels. I thinking building myself one big enough to ride as currently my lawn looks like a swamp with all the standing water.
I tried cutting my lawn and was cutting more water than grass.

They were sold as a Flymo Hover mower over here, the early ones were petrol, all the later ones were electric. Worked well, they are basically just a hovercraft. I imagine it would be a hell of a thing to make one you could ride on, maybe start with an actual hovercraft?

Sorry BB but there is more twist to these threads than a Kikuyu runner and some of those runners I cut the other day were 5m long. I bought one of those electric Flymo mowers about 30 years ago, used it a couple of times but it didn't do much of a job. Thinking about it later after it had gone to the tip I believe the fan giving it the lift was also pushing the grass down flat so once you passed over it the grass stood back up again
