I've not worked on these before so I'm not entirely sure how these work. Is there supposed to be some sort of control lever to change the speed of the mower? The mower has reasonable compression and spark but the carby requires an overhaul. The stamped number has weld splatter over part of it, all that can be made out is 98902 1110 P*****71751. Is there enough info there to work out what kind of diaphragm etc to buy?

There was only three trim numbers for that model and type. No "P" trim but with it looking like a "P" I say it is a "B1"

098902-1110-B1, 098902-1110-E1, 098902-1110-E3.

Any way all three used the same diaphragm and gasket set PN 795083.

Tiger don't waste time buying bits for the carb you can buy a new carby for about $10. I have one here if you need it. If the motor is running the problem is not with the carby but with the governor setup. If you can bring it over (they are a mongrel to get in the boot of a car) I can show you how to set it up and get it working properly

Thanks Norm, it starts and runs with some encouragement from Start y'Bastard. Currently I can control the speed with the bar(clutch lever) at the top of the mower but it's uncomfortable. Unless I can find a replacement lever/way of controlling the revs without using the clutch lever, I'm not sure it's worth repairing, Do you happen to have one of those by any chance?

Tiger this is just a standard MTD, I have dumped heaps of them, never had a catcher for one so I don't bother, just pull the motor and wheels off. I assume the lever you are talking about is the kill switch/engine brake, just tie that off against the handelbar and then you can play with the carby. With the air cleaner off run the motor and push the heel of your hand hard onto the carby, hold it till it slows down and is stopping, relesase your hand and repeat this process several times and it usually clears the carb. From there it is a case of working on the governor spring to get the motor to come back to an idle speed. Providing the motor is not smokey it is worth keeping and if you don't have a catcher, put the motor on a rover base or some base other than a Victa. I keep Victas just for 2 strokes

Hi again Norm,

Maybe I've got my terms wrong the clutch lever I referred to is the same as your engine brake. The actual lever I'm referring to is a throttle control which can be seen in Maxwestern's 3rd photo, it's the second post in this thread. I've got a catcher and it's got reasonable compression. Are you saying I won't need the throttle control lever because if the governor is working properly the speed will take car of itself?

Tiger you still need the throttle control, doesn't do all that much, just moves the engine revs up off idle then the governor can do the rest once the vane and spring tension is set.

Norm, have you got a throttle control lever amongst your spare parts that would be suitable for this mower?

Tiger there is plenty of throttle controls here it is just a Briggs and Stratton motor anything will fit.
