Gents,

I need your opinions on my best option to reverse some good old Aussie ingenuity and I use the term ingenuity loosely

This piece of flat bar has been welded to the handlebars by the previous owner at some point to join the upper and lower halves together after the upper half broke at some point (pictured).

Ive scoured ebay and gumtree and havent had any luck finding a set, should I:

Ring around all of the local mower shops here in WA to see if they have a set?
Buy another cheap mower for ~$300 to scavenge the handlebars from it?
Try and have a welder fix them up?
Appeal to the good nature of the members here to sell me a set?

Either way I plan to have them chrome plated again at some point in the future as part of a full restoration.

- Michael

Hi Michael,

A good experienced welder could repair them and then you could have them re-chromed.

Finding a full set of Series II handle bars will be near on impossible as it would render the mower they came from as useless and most mowers will get repaired and sold as they are worth too much to simply throw out nowadays.

A heads up,

The Series 1 assembly is different to the Series 2 and as such with the engine you have fitted on it you will not be able to have a set of Series 1 bars attached and clear the petrol tank, thus why the difference.

Now in saying all that, it is only the top half you will require and as such any upper section will fit on to the lower half as it's only the lower portion that is different between S1 and S2 machines,

so,

You could look for an old electric 14 inch to part out which generally sells for next to nothing on Gumtree, don't pay any more than around $60 for one of those unless it has a really good catcher, as then it'll be around $120 with the catcher being most of the value in it.

Cheers,
BB.

Another quick handlebar related question, what is the correct term for these fasteners / clips / retainers and can they be ordered from Outdoor King? If not do you know where I'd source them from?

Thanks

Hi GM,

Those 3 tooth circlips are a generic part and nothing special.

You should be able to get them at a fasteners type outlet like "United Fasteners"

Cheers,
BB.
