Hello,

I have a Ransomes 51 with a Kubota gs 130 engine.
As the carborator leaked engine and was difficult to start except if I opened the air filter. I ordered a Carb assy.
The carb assy arrived and the leaking is over, but it is
still very difficult to start the engine. If I take the spark plug out and hold it against the engine while trying to start there�s no spark.
However after many times starting it starts and the engine runs fine. Once I stop the engine it�s very difficult to start it again; sometimes it starts immediately sometimes not at all.
So I opened the ignition-part and that was very dirty and rusted. I cleaned everything but still the same result.
Is it possible to test the ignition coil?
Is it possible that a bad ignition coil works sometimes and sometimes it doesn�t.

The Kubota engine is very fussy about its plug. It has to be the correct resistor plug (BR5ES NGK) or it will give you all sorts of problems. The correct gap is 0.7 to 0.8mm (0.025 to 0.031in)Clearance for the rotor to ignition core is 0.5mm (0.020in) Coil resistance is: primary approx 0.6Ohms, secondary approximately 12.6kOhms. The manual states there is no allowable limit deviation from the gap settings. Also check the HT lead from the coil as I had one once that had a faulty lead.

Coils resistance primary is 0.13 and secundary is 9.73
Multimeter on 20k
I don't know how to measure the clearance from the rotor to ignition core because the coil is located at the inside of the flywheel.

Does anybody know how to adjust the gap between the ignition coil and the flywheel on this machine? The ignition coil is located at the inside of the flywheel.
