Hello all Scott Bonnar Series 1 aficionados,

Here is an accurate drawing complete with metric dimensions of the adaptor plates that were issued for the fitment of engines onto the Series 1 Model 45 that had the non Briggs & Stratton Handlebar assembly, in other words the straight up handlebar that was fitted to all machines that had the Kirby power plant with the forward facing fuel tank. When the change came to fitting the Briggs engine across the full range (17 and 20 inch machines), the two larger machines could not cope with the original handle bar, thus those two machines had a kink put into the lower section to clear the 1 Quart fuel tank.

I thing to remember was that the 14 inch machine was originally fitted with a Briggs engine but had the much shallower tank thus it just cleared the original handlebar. The 14 inch Model 45 never had the 1 Quart tank fitted thus no change was required for that unit until its demise in 1977.

So if you are intending to fit a later style "Sloper OHV" engine design (eg. Honda, Chonda, New Briggs etc.) to your Series 1 machine you'll probably require the following adaptors that will space the Pre Briggs Handlebar out to clear the new engine.

BTW The thickness of the metal plate is 3 to 4 mm thick, also to clarify the two inline vertical holes attach to the machines original handlebar attaching holes while the other end of the plate that has the elongated hole must be at the top of the plate and is the new attachment point for the handlebar assembly, thus spacing it away from the engine. The elongated holes are for personal angle / tilt preference adjustment of the handlebar.
