Hey John,

Can you give us a photo of what is welded?

After looking at photos on the forum, I see that the front roller adjustment was by way of nuts at the end of the shaft. I had wondered if they had an adjuster as the 45's did. So I believe that after my initial concern, all should be good following small repairs to the roller etc.

I'll attach a photo of the weld for you anyway, Drew.

Hello John

Yes, this machine did not have a single point height adjuster.
A more accurate height of cut was achieved by using a setting gauge.

Many thanks for the excellent photos of your restoration.

Hi John,

Sorry I didn't get my 17 out of the garage today as I've spent all day working on my lawn using my 14 inch Scotty as my 17 requires a sharpening and at present my engineer isn't back until tomorrow, so all my work is being done by my original daily driver that first got me into Scotty's way back in 1985.

But I see you've found your way through it as it's the most basic adjustment system that basically Green's mowers had in those days.

Cheers,
BB.

Hi John,

The weld makes sense now.

There is two bolts at either end to lock the sideframes up. Attached is a a rectangular plate with elongated slots. I believe the plate scrapes unwanted stuff off the front roller?

cheers
Drew

Hi Guys,

Yes that item is known as the "scraper" which should be fitted with the open ends of the slots facing upwards. One generally adjusts this blade about a millimetre off the front roller surface to remove any foreign matter.

Cheers,
BB.

Thanks Guys,
I've been working night shift, so have been absent from here.
Have just picked up the 2 that have been in a friend's shed waiting to come home - have posted some show 'n tell
Both in working condition, although the little Kirby engine wont idle smoothly.
Cheers
aussie
